David Abramson. Bridging 23 Tribute!
A Tribute From the Bridging 23 Team to David Abramson
| WWe’d like to take a moment to honor and thank the late David Abramson. David was pivotal in creating Bridging 23, the initiative that brought forth the Unity Walk. Although he passed away before seeing the event come to fruition, we are incredibly grateful for the spark that gave it life. As we prepare for our 10th annual walk from Ann Arbor to Ypsilanti, we honor his legacy. His wife, Ellen Abramson, has been a continuous supporter of the walk and serves on the Planning Committee. We appreciate her passion, voice, and commitment! She shared this photo of David and our executive director, Belinda, discussing their dream of the walk in its initial phase of creation. Please take a moment to read Ellen’s reflection below the picture! |

Hello friends and family. When David died in early 2017, he had launched a vision for a walk uniting the communities of Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti. His intention was to connect the people of these two communities in meaningful ways and take steps toward reducing the disparities in health, wealth and life expectancy which exist between them. David connected with Belinda Dulin of the Washtenaw County Dispute Resolution Center (DRC) a few months before he passed away. It was enough time to convey his vision, and begin to imagine together how it might look. The DRC, along with David’s friends from the Association for Youth Empowerment (AYE) carried the vision forward. This June, hundreds of us will walk in the 10th “Unity Walk” between Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti. The love and sense of community we experience at the event remind me of what David sought to create and who he worked to become.
